The AR/VR team at Meta is helping people around the world come together and connect through world-class Augmented and Virtual Reality hardware and software. We are developing the future of AR and VR, bringing products to consumers that transform entertainment and social experiences. XR Insight Scene team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies for 3D semantic understanding for diverse scenes that serve as the foundation of future AR/VR products. We are seeking a curious and talented Computer Vision/Machine Learning Research Intern to solve large-scale vision problems in 3d scene understanding. Our team is addressing a variety of technical challenges in the areas of ML for 3D modeling, 3D surface representation, semantic scene understanding, weakly-, semi- and self-supervised learning for scene understanding. We're looking for candidates who share a passion for exploring and solving complex, challenging problems at the intersection of CV/ML and 3D semantic understanding.
Research Engineer Intern, 3D Scene Understanding, Computer Vision / ML (PhD) Responsibilities
  • Research and develop CV/ML solutions for a specific product feature in the area of 3D scene inference
  • Collaborate with and support of other engineers across various disciplines for the research problems
  • Communicate research project agenda, projects and results
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following research fields: Multiview Geometry/Stereo, ML-based 3D Scene Completion, 2D/3D semantic inference, and self-/semi-supervised machine learning paradigms
  • Strong track record with significant publications in top computer vision conferences (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, etc.) or journals.
  • Fluent in Python and C++ (>2 years experience)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem solving capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
  • Experience in applying machine learning in large-scale problems.
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience (via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, etc).
  • Experience with PyTorch and open-source optimization libraries like Ceres library.
  • A publication record in peer-reviewed conferences, eg. CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICRA, NeurIPs, ICML, ICLR
