Meta Optics and Display Hardware team in Ireland is looking for exceptional and highly self-motivated interns to help us develop efficient microLED devices and assemblies for the next generation of AR and VR Displays. Fabrication and characterization of high brightness red, green, and blue microLEDs is a key enabling technology in the realization of microLED based displays. The Facebook facility in Cork is undertaking challenging industrial research on the development and fabrication of these devices. These positions are particularly suited for electronic materials, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optoelectronics, or physics postgraduate students who wish to further develop their skills in a vibrant, multidisciplinary, and fast-moving research environment. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks in length with various start dates throughout the year. We have several different projects to offer.
Research Scientist Intern, uLED Optics & Display (PhD) Responsibilities
  • Emphasis on micron-scale light-emitting (LED) diode device fabrication, characterization, yield assessment, reliability assessment, modeling, or assembly
  • Explore integration of novel materials and fabrication methods into micron-scale LEDs towards enhanced display performance
  • Hands-on processing/process development and/or characterization of device properties and assembly techniques
  • Active involvement in the data analysis to evaluate impact of electronic properties on future device performance
  • Communication of research agenda, progress and results
  • Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently studying for a full time PhD in electronic materials, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optoelectronics or physics with a focus on semiconductors and able to return to the program after the completion of the internship
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Extensive hands-on experience with processing or characterization of semiconductor materials, devices or assemblies, preferably in a cleanroom environment
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with III-V semiconductors and assembly materials
  • Demonstrated relevant industry experience via an internship or work experience
  • Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated in accepted papers at international peer-reviewed journals or conferences
