Camera Perception Engineer Responsibilities
  • Develop and tune image processing pipeline for camera system.
  • Develop tuning parameters, which includes 3A (Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance and Auto Focus) strategies to fine tune end-to-end camera systems to improve overall performance and user experience.
  • Developing a set of parameters and strategies that can be used to optimize the performance of the camera system, which requires one to conduct experiments and simulations to identify the most effective tuning parameters and 3A strategies for different scenarios and lighting conditions.
  • Analyzing data from real-world use cases, as well as testing and refining the parameters and strategies through iterative experimentation.
  • Research and investigate, which includes new image processing methods to improve image quality: Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in image processing algorithms and techniques, and evaluating their potential impact on camera system performance.
  • Conducting experiments, simulations, or prototyping to test the effectiveness of different approaches.
  • Influence architecture, which includes of future AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual reality) systems to optimize for camera performance.
  • Working closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure that the camera system is designed and optimized for maximum performance, such as providing input on hardware specifications, software architecture, and other design considerations to ensure that the camera system meets the required performance standards.
  • Work with both external vendors and internal teams to develop image quality solutions for camera products.
  • Apply subjective and objective image quality analysis to assist internal R&D projects.
  • Manage and report image quality deliverables to cross-functional team.
  • Research, design and develop tools, metrics and workflows to improve camera tuning process.
  • Design and develop software tools in Matlab and Python to improve camera tuning process by developing perceptual metrics.
  • Creating software tools that can automate and streamline the camera tuning process, e.g., developing algorithms and metrics that can objectively evaluate the quality of camera output, as well as designing user interfaces and workflows that make it easy for camera operators to use these tools.
  • Develop automated capture framework with hardware fixture and software tooling.
  • Creating a hardware and software system that can automatically capture and process camera data.
  • Designing and building custom hardware fixtures, as well as developing software tools that can control and automate the capture process.
  • Review and contribute to the overall camera system design.
